    Image Super-Resolution with Deep Dictionary

    Since the first success of Dong et al., the deep-learning-based approach has become dominant in the field of single-image super-resolution. This replaces all the handcrafted image processing steps of traditional sparse-coding-based methods with a deep neural network. In contrast to sparse-coding-based methods, which explicitly create high/low-resolution dictionaries, the dictionaries in deep-learning-based methods are implicitly acquired as a nonlinear combination of multiple convolutions. One disadvantage of deep-learning-based methods is that their performance is degraded for images created differently from the training dataset (out-of-domain images). We propose an end-to-end super-resolution network with a deep dictionary (SRDD), where a high-resolution dictionary is explicitly learned without sacrificing the advantages of deep learning. Extensive experiments show that explicit learning of high-resolution dictionary makes the network more robust for out-of-domain test images while maintaining the performance of the in-domain test images.Comment: ECCV 202

    Post-event Processing Predicts Cortisol Recovery

    There is growing evidence that individuals with social anxiety show impaired cortisol recovery after experiencing social evaluative stressors. Yet, little is known regarding the cognitive processes underlying such impaired cortisol recovery. The present study examined the effect of post-event processing (PEP), referred to as repetitive thinking about social situations, on cortisol recovery following a social stressor. Forty-two non-clinical university students (23 women, 19 men, mean age = 22.0 ± 2.0 years) completed the Trier Social Stress Test (TSST), followed by a thought sampling procedure which assessed the frequency of PEP reflecting the TSST. A growth curve model showed PEP and social anxiety interactively predicted cortisol recovery. In particular, PEP predicted impaired cortisol recovery in those with low levels of social anxiety but not in those with high levels of social anxiety, which contradicted the initial hypothesis. These findings suggest that PEP is differentially associated with cortisol recovery depending on levels of social anxiety. The possible mechanisms underlying these findings were discussed in terms of protective inhibition framework

    No differential responsiveness to face-to-face communication and video call in individuals with elevated social anxiety

    Background: Individuals with social anxiety reportedly prefer online communication over face-to-face communication. However, no study has directly compared the cognitive and affective responsiveness to face-to-face communication and video call in individuals with social anxiety. Thus, it is still unclear whether online video call is advantageous for individuals with social anxiety. Methods: This study recruited 500 Japanese workers who had used video call applications for a business purpose to retrospectively rate the levels of subjective anxiety, distress, self-focused attention, and attention to the speech content experienced during face-to-face communication, video call, and audio-only call. Results: Individuals with elevated social anxiety showed higher levels of anxiety, distress, and self-focused attention than the healthy control in all three ways of communication. Social anxiety did not moderate the effect of the communication mode. Limitations: Retrospective recall method may have caused bias in the responses. Self-reported assessment of social anxiety symptoms may also limit the generalizability to clinical populations. Conclusions: Individuals with elevated social anxiety might feel similar levels of anxiety both during face-to-face communication and online video calls. Impairments related to online video calls in individuals with elevated social anxiety should also be addressed

    An electronic structure governed by the displacement of the indium site in In-S-6 octahedra: LnOInS(2) (Ln = La, Ce, and Pr)

    An extremely large displacement of the indium site in In-S-6 octahedra in LnOInS(2) (Ln = La, Ce, and Pr) was found in synchrotron X-ray diffraction. LaOInS2 with off-center indium in In-S-6 octahedra exhibited a wider optical band gap than CeOInS2 and PrOInS2 with on-center indium. Therefore, the electronic structure of LnOInS(2) is governed by the indium site with an extremely large displacement. All LnOInS(2) produced H-2 gas under visible light irradiation in the presence of sacrificial electron donors
